Welcome to SHE's GREAT!
SHE’s GREAT! is a holistic community-based gender responsive program that prepares youth (ages 13 – 20) to identify and transform gender stereotypes and builds inclusive communities where students are equipped with the networks, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Design, and Math (STEAM) training, confidence, and leadership skills to fully participate in their communities and careers.
Funded by the US Department of State’s Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, the project supports S/GWI’s goal to promote the rights and empowerment of women and girls through three closely linked Objectives.
- Objective 1: Young people are more resilient to restrictive gender norms affecting their life choices and opportunities.
- Objective 2: An enabling environment is cultivated in schools or community-based organizations and communities to foster equal collaboration amongst young people.
- Objective 3: A network of participants, stakeholders, and partners at the community and national levels better promote girls’ increased skills and opportunities. Learn more about SHE’s GREAT! global program here.
Gender and My Community Curriculum
During the first phase of the SHE’s GREAT! program, participants explore the “Gender and My Community” (GMC) curriculum. Gender identity is integral to our personal, family, and community lives and cultures. This program asks critical questions such as: What is gender? Why do we believe the things we do about gender? How do power and gender relations lead to inequality and gender-based violence (GBV)? This curriculum is the foundation and guiding tool of the 8-week long Gender and My Community Club.
The goal of the SHE’S GREAT! curriculum is for participants to transform knowledge, attitude, and actions about gender roles, expectations, and power dynamic. Learn more about Gender and My Community Curriculum here.
SHE's GREAT! Program Network Activities
Network Activities: SHE’s GREAT! is a global program which is being implemented in seven countries around the world. The program is focused on global collaboration and to strengthen the visibility of the SHE’s GREAT! Network, a series of cross-cutting activities have been established both locally and internationally to promote greater global cooperation.
Cross-cutting activities of the program include work of Friends of SHE’s GREAT! (FoSG) with SHE’s GREAT! Ambassadors, the development of a virtual network platform, Virtual Learning Exchanges (VLEs) and Virtual Impact Festival at the end of the project. SHE's GREAT! Program Implementing Partners Leadership Initiatives
In the cost extension period, Implementing Partners (IP) in the Kyrgyz Republic, Georgia, and Jordan have an opportunity to demonstrate greater leadership during all phases of the SHE’s GREAT! program by training their fellow IPs to implement a program component in these countries. Additionally, GCSD, IREX’s partner in Georgia, will implement their leadership initiative in Guatemala and St.Lucia, as well. These initiatives will leverage each IP’s unique expertise and perspective to strategically multiply program impact and promote sustainable results. Additionally, this approach will contribute to global knowledge through dialogue and collaboration, promote improvement and innovation in all country programs, and also strengthen the Global SHE’s GREAT! Network by promoting collaboration between IREX and IPs in the Kyrgyz Republic, Jordan, Georgia, Saint Lucia, and Guatemala. To learn more about the Leadership Initiatives of each partner click here.
