Overview
My Changemaker Projects
Why do you want to join youthpower
How I want to make an Impact

After what my I had been through personally on the past several years, I have realized that God will never put me on those situations with no purpose. After all these years, I am always asking myself of what could be my other significant purpose here on Earth aside from worshipping God. Now, I have realized that I want to shed light to other people and lend my hand to those who need my help. Since I have experienced depression on my adolescence and had successfully conquered it, I want to advocate for mental health. Now I am currently looking for vital youth organizations both national and worldwide to raise and spread social awareness to the community regarding mental health and help people who underwent situations the same as I do and explain that mental illness is not a very severe disease but a very significant topic and social issue which needs to be addressed properly and that everyone should be educated and aware of. I really want to mobilize this cause because everyone deserves to be treated equally with importance, care, and respect no matter what differences we have, social preferences, beliefs, race, origin, and religion.

Short biography
I want to join YouthLead because I want to become part of the network that advocates for youth empowerment and leadership. As I have researched, YouthLead gives the young generation a powerful platform for them to use their advocacies whether it be in social media, environmental issues, gender sensitivity, food security, mental health, politics, or even technological advancement. Global Youth Leaders tend to use this tool for them to be heard and generalized by the community. As a young millennial, I advocate for the eradication of lack of support to child education. I, myself, at first hand, experienced the deepest fathoms of life - of what it felt like having no money to buy food, water, medicine, and even shelter when I was studying at college. And even after I graduated, I still find a hard time finding work, since I am not a graduate of one of the most prestigious universities in the country (i.e., University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and the likes) and I want to break that stigma and the usual standards of the academia. Intelligence and prestige do not quantify the potentials of a child. More often, it is the child's courage, persistence, and drive which makes him known successful in his endeavors. And tremendous life challenges shall make him even stronger and grow maturely in every decision he will make along the path he will take. Moreover, it is not poverty that kills a man's dream; it is the lack of child support. Even the poorest of the poor also has the right to quality education, and if given the key opportunity, we could all have equal chances to a better and sustainable living. And with this program, I want to become a catalyst, put out all the doubts, and prove them wrong.

In addition, I would also want to bring greater awareness to the worsening case on the biotic components of our environment. People tend to neglect their dull habits when it comes to proper waste disposal which in return contributes to increasing pollution. I give emphasis to this environmental issue because I am genetically born with bronchi asthma. You cannot call it sustainable living if you, yourself, is breathing unhealthy air. Component and highly urbanized cities started to become overly industrialized over the years. These industries go beyond their limits unknowing the adverse projected impact of their ecological solid waste management plans - or shall we say, they really don't have one. As a student of environmental planning, I gave importance to good and even better planning among cities and rural zones, most especially in central business districts in metropolitan areas. I planned to encapsulate the knowledge I earned in civil, environmental engineering, and urban planning. In line with the mission of the US and Philippine Green Building Councils, I also want to indulge to the government agencies to pursue and promote green building technologies in the country's infrastructures. We do not only need to provide structurally designed infrastructures but also bring ecological balance and well-being between human and its environment.

Lastly, I would also like to bring awareness to mental health. During my childhood, I, myself, was a victim of bullying. And as the time goes by, I want to raise this social issue as one of the primary parental concerns in the community. Align with other programs of the World Health Organization, I want to advocate for giving free seminars and orientations among schools and local government institutions, most especially, the parents to thoroughly guide their children at home with proper discipline and lead them by example, showing compassion and right treatment among others. Alongside the uprising issues on schools regarding rampant physical and cyber bullying, it is the primary obligation of the school principal or guidance counselor, and even the teachers themselves to keenly observe the student’s behavior in the classroom and monitor whether there may be signs or occurrence of school bullying among students in the campus to prevent hazing and any other form of violence. If physical health is important to human life, mental health should also be given equal attention and significance as vital part of child upbringing.

Greetings Young Leaders !

Young SEA is a team of young hopeful changemakers from Philippines, Indonesia & Malaysia on a mission to create a better place for everyone to live in.

The project focuses on SDG 13 Climate Action specifically about tackling the environmental threat of untreated disposable mask waste caused by Covid-19. We have seen that the pandemic caused everyone to use disposable facemasks to protect ourselves but the action to limit its environmental impact has not yet been properly taken action upon, both in developed and developing countries.

With this in mind, we opted to organize a series of webinars about tackling this problem and also to empower young people about the many ways we can create a better world in this post-pandemic era.

We always stand by the quote, “If you can't do great things, do small things in a great way” by Napoleon Hill and we hope that through this slogan we will always be reminded of the simple ways we can do to achieve our goal— a place where no one is left behind.

Right now, we are participating in a #WatchOurImpact challenge by Youth Lead that you are part of and we would like people to discover our project and vote for us! Could you help us by voting for us?
Here is the link https://www.youthlead.org/watch-our-impact/young-sea-tackling-environmental-impact-untreated-disposable-mask-waste-covid-19-pandemic

Kindly login to https://www.youthlead.org/ and click the vote button. If you vote, the number near the heart will change. If you need help you can always  message us at our email youngsoutheastasia@gmail.com  !

You only have to log in and press on the heart. I hope you will do that and Thank you so much for the vote! <3

Hi Mark,

Have you heard about YouthLead’s new #WatchOurImpact Campaign? I am an intern working with YouthLead this summer and I wanted to personally reach out to you about the contest because I think you would be a perfect candidate to submit an entry given your involvement in your community and passion for making the world a better place!

The #WatchOurImpact Campaign, launched on June 7 in partnership with GenU and USAID, aims to showcase the power of youth to impact change in their communities. Entering the campaign entails submitting an original, three-minute video or slideshow in Arabic, English, French, or Spanish that tells the story of your actions to advance local, national, or global development. The story you tell can be personal, that of a group of young changemakers, or that of a youth-led organization.

Entering is super easy — here’s how:

1. Create a three-minute video or slideshow that meets the contest requirements.

2. Upload your video or slideshow to YouTube.

3. Fill out the submission form. You must be a member of YouthLead.org to submit, but registration is free.

4. Encourage your friends and network to vote for your submission on social media by sharing the link once it’s posted on the #WatchOurImpact Contest Video Gallery page and by using #WatchOurImpact.

Here are some how-to videos and examples to get you started. What might you want to highlight? Have you helped promote mask wearing and social distancing in your community during the pandemic? Have you developed an after school program for young people? Have you started a small business? These are just a few examples to get you started, but there are countless others to choose from. What do you want to showcase from the important work you’ve been doing?

The work you’ve done in your community deserves to be highlighted. Please consider entering the #WatchOurImpact Campaign to show the world how you have made a difference! Submissions will be accepted until July 23.  If you have any questions or concerns about the Campaign or how to enter, do not hesitate to reach out. I would be more than happy to help!

Sincerely,

Miriam
