How I want to make an Impact

I believe that all my previous experiences makes me a young changemaker. I have always liked working for humanity and social causes. I would like to share my experiences:

1. ISFiT 2019, Norway: International Student Festival in Trondheim or ISFiT is the World’s largest student thematic student festival and has been held every other year since 1990. The festival is created by more than 400 students in Trondheim and brings 500 students from over 145 countries. Its mission is to create dialogue and friendship across cultural boundaries in a festival consisting of dialogue, debates and workshops. I was selected to participate and represent India in ISFiT 2019. In a world that is more international than ever, it is pertinent that the youth of today discuss peace, and we can move towards sustainable solutions for a peaceful future.

2. Generation 2030, Russia: I got a chance to go on AIESEC’s global volunteer program in Russia in summer 2016. Since this was Russia’s National project as well as AIESEC’s biggest project to date, powered by the United Nations, I got to meet around 140 interns from all around the world. My goal there was to work towards reaching Sustainable Development Goal #10, Reduced Inequalities. While working, I realized that there is inequality not only amongst humans but even amongst animals. We used to approach random strangers on the streets, greet them, speak to them and spread awareness about our goals. We didn’t realize that we were actually learning a lot and more importantly, we were developing our own skills.

3. HelpAge India: HelpAge India is a leading charity in India working with and for disadvantaged elderly for nearly 4 decades. It was set up in 1978 and it advocates for their needs such as universal pension, quality healthcare, action against elder abuse and many more at national, state and societal level with Central and State Governments. I participated actively with HelpAge India for creating awareness and assistance in raising funds for the care of the elderly, irrespective of race, religion, caste or creed.

4. SOS Children’s Villages of India: It is an independent, non-government and non-profitable organization working for the holistic development of parentless children, women and children belonging to vulnerable families. Founded in 1949 in Austria, SOS Children’s Villages began its operations in India in 1964. SOS India is the largest operation within the SOS International Federation of 134 countries. I participated actively as Young Ambassador to contribute for the child in need and got appreciated by Padmashri J. N. Kaul. 5. Blood Donation: Safe blood saves lives and improves health. I have always believed that one should donate blood if he/she is able to. I participated actively in the voluntary Blood Donation movement in the State of Punjab, India.

Hi Deepank,

Have you heard about YouthLead’s new #WatchOurImpact Campaign? I am an intern working with YouthLead this summer and I wanted to personally reach out to you about the contest because I think you would be a perfect candidate to submit an entry given your involvement in your community and passion for making the world a better place!

The #WatchOurImpact Campaign, launched on June 7 in partnership with GenU and USAID, aims to showcase the power of youth to impact change in their communities. Entering the campaign entails submitting an original, three-minute video or slideshow in Arabic, English, French, or Spanish that tells the story of your actions to advance local, national, or global development. The story you tell can be personal, that of a group of young changemakers, or that of a youth-led organization.

Entering is super easy — here’s how:

1. Create a three-minute video or slideshow that meets the contest requirements.

2. Upload your video or slideshow to YouTube.

3. Fill out the submission form. You must be a member of YouthLead.org to submit, but registration is free.

4. Encourage your friends and network to vote for your submission on social media by sharing the link once it’s posted on the #WatchOurImpact Contest Video Gallery page and by using #WatchOurImpact.

Here are some how-to videos and examples to get you started. What might you want to highlight? Have you helped promote mask wearing and social distancing in your community during the pandemic? Have you developed an after school program for young people? Have you started a small business? These are just a few examples to get you started, but there are countless others to choose from. What do you want to showcase from the important work you’ve been doing?

The work you’ve done in your community deserves to be highlighted. Please consider entering the #WatchOurImpact Campaign to show the world how you have made a difference! Submissions will be accepted until July 23.  If you have any questions or concerns about the Campaign or how to enter, do not hesitate to reach out. I would be more than happy to help!

Sincerely,

Miriam
