The future of a people is in its young people ( the youth and children) this truth is what propels me to work towards a better future through working with the youths and children in my district and province.
We run programs that empower and challenge youth and children for a better future, these include:
Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) - in this program we invite prominent people from different sectors of industry to come and educate, empower and mentor our youth in the areas they are involved.
Beitbridge Youth Interface (BYI) - is an initiative we started in 2018 that provides a dialogue between the youth and the local government, the idea is to foster the inclusion of young people in the strategic planning, sustainable economic development programs and policy formulation processes within the district; because of this program for the first time young people were part of the Startegic Planning Workshop for the Municipality of Beitbridge. This year 2019 we are looking at the Provincial level.
Academic Aid Project - I am part of the team that help raise school fees and stationery for the less privileged students in the remote marginalized areas of Beitbridge. We have a program currently running called Project SchoolRun at one of the Primary Schools in Beitbridge Rural District. In this project we have 60 students we are helping with tuition fees and stationery. Our aim is to come up with a sustainable plan such as income generating project to fund such a program.
Other Projects:
Advocacy against SGBV - I am part of the team that organized an advocacy program against gender based violence in 2018 and I am glad that this year I was privileged to be part of the My Age project on SGBV and Child Marriages which we will be rolling out in my province and I will be leading it, this means we cover more ground and impact more lives than we did last year.
IWD Commemorations 2019 - I am part of the team that organized the first ever commemoration of the International Women's Day in Beitbridge Urban. This started from a random post on social media to mobilizing other youth and resources, the program was a great success that birthed a sustainable program to help and empower women in business, young entrepreneurs and aspiring business women in Beitbridge Urban.
Disaster Relief Program - Zimbabwe’s eastern province was affected terribly by the Tropical Cyclone Idai which left hundreds dead and thousands homeless. I started a disaster relief program in Beitbridge that helped in mobilizing resources to help the victims of the Tropical Cyclone. The relief program mobilized over 1500kgs of clothes and blankets, groceries and cooking utensils. The resources were delivered at the command center (Skyline Chimanimani) as part of the aid that was being sent from across the country.
I would like to share my experience I have gained so far with other change makers hoping it will cause a great impact in their lives and communities they lead. I would also like to gain experience through learning from other young people, exposure, networking and opportunities to participate in global transformation and change.
