How I want to make an Impact

Using the comparative advantage, I have of a sound knowledge of key decisions, programs and activities that continental institutions like the African Union and United Nations Commission of Africa are doing towards the development of young people in silencing the gun by 2020, health and economic activities, I will create regular blogs that will help with up to date information on these activities in health issues like HIV and AIDS, Cancer and Sexual Reproductive Health in General. I will also engage influential people in Advocacy continentally like African Union Special Envoy on Youth and Special Envoy on Gender to disseminate and accelerate ongoing efforts for Gender Equality and Health on Social Media. Finally, I will work with colleagues at the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps who are from the 55 member states of Africa to use their networks in their home countries to advocate virtually for key commitments on Gender Equality, Health, and Youth by the African Union Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Short biography
I aim to make an impact through strategic advocacy already as a policy and advocacy associate, I assist in influencing the African Union decisions pertaining to various issues on Health, Gender, and Education.I will use my comparative advantage to carry out advocacy campaigns on various issues on Gender, Health that is on Sexual Reproductive Health and others to political pressure and influence the African Union Assembly through the various structures in the Commission . Working with the newly appointed African Union Youth Envoy we will be doing social media campaigns on issues such as Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage and Mental Health targeting the Young People of the African Continent. I will also use the Youth Lead platform to regularly update young people on the key decisions being made by various Continental Agents here in Addis Ababa such as the African Union , UNFPA and other and the impact of those decisions hence my strategy aims to engage relevant stakeholders through using social media and physical interactions.

Hi Brian,

Have you heard about YouthLead’s new #WatchOurImpact Campaign? I am an intern working with YouthLead this summer and I wanted to personally reach out to you about the contest because I think you would be a perfect candidate to submit an entry given your involvement in your community and passion for making the world a better place!

The #WatchOurImpact Campaign, launched on June 7 in partnership with GenU and USAID, aims to showcase the power of youth to impact change in their communities. Entering the campaign entails submitting an original, three-minute video or slideshow in Arabic, English, French, or Spanish that tells the story of your actions to advance local, national, or global development. The story you tell can be personal, that of a group of young changemakers, or that of a youth-led organization.

Entering is super easy — here’s how:

1. Create a three-minute video or slideshow that meets the contest requirements.

2. Upload your video or slideshow to YouTube.

3. Fill out the submission form. You must be a member of YouthLead.org to submit, but registration is free.

4. Encourage your friends and network to vote for your submission on social media by sharing the link once it’s posted on the #WatchOurImpact Contest Video Gallery page and by using #WatchOurImpact.

Here are some how-to videos and examples to get you started. What might you want to highlight? Have you helped promote mask wearing and social distancing in your community during the pandemic? Have you developed an after school program for young people? Have you started a small business? These are just a few examples to get you started, but there are countless others to choose from. What do you want to showcase from the important work you’ve been doing?

The work you’ve done in your community deserves to be highlighted. Please consider entering the #WatchOurImpact Campaign to show the world how you have made a difference! Submissions will be accepted until July 23.  If you have any questions or concerns about the Campaign or how to enter, do not hesitate to reach out. I would be more than happy to help!

Sincerely,

Miriam
