How I want to make an Impact

My name is Idris Mubarak and I am the outreach manager and webmaster of Bridge Connect Africa Initiative; an organisation that engages social change drivers through active volunteerism to take action by empowering the vulnerable populations. I am a web developer(front-end) and I am also studying for my masters in Computer science at Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria.I am proficient with a lot of web technologies and media tools and I am currently training a group of young change makers on how to make videos and also leverage on the use of social media to amplify social issues.I have been passionate about contributing my own quota to making people’s lives better ever since I got introduced to the selfless act of volunteerism. I have worked with several NGOs such as Book Bank Africa, which is a youth driven charity organization that aims to add value to the Nigerian education system by recycling books to the less privileged. We were able to gather a total of 3,189 books which we donated to about 4 schools in the country. I also worked with “Pick That Trash” and “Stop Don’t Drop” as a volunteer to clean up a primary school in Gwarimpa estate, 3rd avenue, Abuja that was being littered with dirt by the neighbouring residents. We also decorated the place using painted tires, banners and other eco-friendly materials. I also participated at the 2018 International conference on family planning as a youth delegate sponsored by the Population Reference Bureau (PRB). We made a documentary about one of the issues facing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in Nigeria with emphasis forced child marriage especially in Northern Nigeria. We are currently working on getting the child protection bill in Kano State passed into law. This will ensure that every girl child attains a minimum of secondary school education before getting married. Having the opportunity to be part of YouthLead as a young changemaker provides me with the unique opportunity to learn more about how to develop solutions for the problems that we face not only in my community but globally.
