ABOUT THE EVENT

While the importance of youth engagement is widely accepted in the youth employment sector, limited research exists around what meaningful youth engagement means and how to engage youth in employment programs that impact them. Conceptualized by the Youth Employment Funders Group (YEFG) and commissioned by Citi Foundation, Plan International’s research aims to close this knowledge gap with the launch of a roadmap, “Youth Voices in Youth Employment: A Roadmap for Promoting Meaningful Youth Engagement in Youth Employment Programs.”

On Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021, YouthPower will host the official launch event as we explore how to ensure the aspirations and priorities of young people are consistently reflected in programs, their rights are protected, and their voices heard. During this event we will thoroughly examine the definitions and applications of the toolkit by:

  • Defining and operationalizing meaningful youth engagement in youth employment programs,

  • Providing a walk-through of milestones and action steps per program life cycle stages, and

  • Sharing tangible experiences from youth, funders, and implementers on promoting meaningful youth engagement.

ABOUT ROADMAP

As part of Plan International’s global commitment to ensuring and protecting youth rights, “Youth Voices in Youth Employment: A Roadmap for Promoting Meaningful Youth Engagement in Youth Employment Programs,” establishes a first of its kind roadmap that guides funders in effectively embedding youth voices and rights into their youth employment strategies and programs. The effort was conceptualized by the Youth Employment Funders Group and commissioned by the Citi Foundation.

ABOUT THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT FUNDERS GROUP

The Youth Employment Funders Group (YEFG) is a network of over twenty multilateral organizations and international donors, including private foundations, working together to generate and share more and better evidence-based knowledge on what works in the field of youth employment.

ABOUT #YOUTHVOICES

The #YouthVoices social media campaign invites funders, implementers, and youth to share their youth engagement experiences through social media. This campaign highlights the successes and challenges of different stakeholders when engaging youth in their employment programs.

To participate in the #YouthVoices campaign:

  1. Attend the Virtual Session co-hosted with YouthPower2: Learning and Evaluation on February 23, 2021;
  2. Using insights and learnings from session, use the #YouthVoices hashtag and answer any of the following questions using any social media platform (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.):
    • What’s your experience working with and for youth in employment programs?
    • What value do youth bring to youth employment programs?
  3. Tag Plan International USA and three other friends on social media to participate in the campaign and share their answers to the questions above.

#YouthVoices will officially launch during the virtual session on February 23, 2021. At the start of each youth-led webinar on February 24-25, posts from #YouthVoices will be broadcasted during the youth-led webinars and continuously promoted across Plan and partner organizations social media platforms.
