My name is Anthony Acquah, a member of UCC YouthMappers Chapter. I am very passionate about the youth and this is because the youth are those who make up the world. We are the future and the future is us, we therefore have a lot of work to do to protect that future that we hold in our hands.
I got the opportunity to partake in this year’s African Green Revolution Forum, which took place in Accra, Ghana from the 3rd to the 6th of September, 2019, with the theme: leveraging digital transformation to drive sustainable food systems in Africa, thanks to YouthLead. The programme was fully packed with activities and wonderful sessions where YouthLead members got the opportunity to interact with other change makers and learn from them and also share their experiences with them.
During the programme, I got to learn that, digitalization of agriculture in a sustainable way will be a driving force for Africa’s progress and development. This then brings about many job opportunities for us the youth. We should try as much as possible to do with the little we have when it comes to agriculture to call the attention of various stakeholders.
There are many support opportunities for agricultural based activities and I urge every youth who is passionate about growing in the agricultural world to access them. There are also many agricultural researches, which have been conducted and readily available for us, so let us make us of them to grow our businesses.
One thing that we refuse to do as youth is being innovative. I encourage every in agriculture to be creative to make farming an interesting activity to partake in and with this we can catch the eyes of many of those who think agriculture is for the poor.
I leave you with this, never look down on yourself as a youth and also do not wait for someone to tell you what to do before you take action. Be an action oriented person and make the change where it is needed.
