Overview: Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease, found in tropical regions of Africa and the Americas. It is an important public health concern due to the devastating outbreaks it can cause and the risk of international spread. This course provides a general introduction to yellow fever and is intended for personnel responding to outbreaks in complex emergencies or in settings where the basic environmental infrastructures have been damaged or destroyed.

After completing a brief pre-test, you will find a short video lecture in English. To access the presentation slides in Kanuri, click the "Next" arrow below the video. Please then proceed to the post-test in English by once again clicking the "Next" arrow, or by selecting it in your navigation menu.

Learning objectives: By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • describe yellow fever disease, confirmation and transmission;
  • list the risk of large urban outbreaks with international spread;
  • explain the objectives of the global long-term strategy to eliminate yellow fever epidemics (EYE); and
  • describe the different components of outbreak response.

Certificates: A Confirmation of Participation is available to participants who complete at least 80% of the course materials.
