Human Rights in Development Cooperation – An Introduction
The Module briefly introduces the human rights-based approach (HRBA) and shows how it can be applied in development projects and programmes. Learners are introduced to the key concept of the HRBA and get an overview of the human rights framework(s) relevant to development cooperation. They learn what human rights risks are and how to avoid them while promoting human rights in development projects and programmes.
Duration: 1.5 hours
Target audience: development practitioners; national, regional and international experts working in development cooperation; staff in non-governmental (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in development cooperation
Human Rights in Rural Development
The Module briefly introduces the human rights-based approach (HRBA) and shows how it can be applied in the rural development sector. Learners get to know the key concept of the HRBA and learn about human rights framework(s) relevant to rural development. They are introduced to typical human rights risks in the sector and get an idea of how to avoid/mitigate such risks while promoting human rights.
Duration: approximately 3 hours
Target audience: national, regional and/or international experts working in rural development; practitioners; staff in non-governmental (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working on land governance related issues
Human Rights-Based Approach to Conflict Transformation

Learners are introduced to the key concept of the HRBA and get an overview of the human rights framework(s) relevant to peacebuilding and conflict transformation. They learn how human rights violations can be both causes and consequences of conflict.

Human Rights-Based Approach to Sustainable Economic Development and Resource Governance
The Module shows how the human rights-based approach (HRBA) can be applied in the sustainable economic development and resource governance sector. Learners are introduced to prevalent human rights risks in the sector. They learn about the key concept of the HRBA and get an overview of key human rights instruments relevant to sustainable economic development and resource governance, including those instruments that address human rights responsibilities of companies. By the end of the Module learners know key strategies and tools to apply the HRBA in the sector.

Methodology
The e-learning course provides an interactive barrier-free self-paced learning environment. In order to support this, the course uses the latest instructional methods in e-learning such as illustrative case studies and demonstrations, as well as interactive tests and practice exercises. To be as inclusive as possible the contents of each module are designed in a barrier-free manner – which explains the limited interactivity in some parts of the modules as well as the limited variety of different types of exercises used.
