On the 10-year anniversary of its independence from Serbia, half of Kosovars want to move West. The others want to shape its future. This article describes the condition of youth in Kosovo and their role in bringing about change for a country on the precipice of transformation. Punctuated with portraits of Kosovar youth, several personal stories are documented to show how youth view Kosovo's past, present, and future. Some, like 27 year old Arber, view moving away from Kosovo as the only viable option to seek employment. Others, like 19 year old Elena, are hopeful about Kosovo's future and feel the need to stay present to shape it. Themes highlighted in this article the rural/urban divide, dwelling on the past verses aspiring towards the future, and youth employment prospects.
