In a moment marked by deep political and cultural divides, a program named "In Your Shoes" looks to harness tricks of the stage to step into the shoes of others and help students understand different perspectives. A collaboration between the performing arts and government departments at Georgetown University and Patrick Henry College birthed the new program. The program takes advantage of the fact that theatre requires focused listening and clear communication to bridge the gap between young people with different perspectives. "In Your Shoes" is a laudable (and, best of all, replicable) example of how educators can use theatre to foster togetherness and dialogue in their communities.
