Use a Strong Password
If you’re still using “password” as your password, it’s time for you to change it. I know that it’s super easy to remember, and you’ve been using it for years without a problem, but really, it’s time to upgrade your password to something a bit more complex. Longer passwords (at least eight characters) that utilize a combination of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and punctuation marks are significantly stronger than using your pet’s name or birthday.
Don’t Use the Same Password for Every Account
The only thing worse than having your password be “password”, is using “password” as your password for every single account you’ve ever signed up for (That’s a lot of passwords… in that sentence, I mean. Clearly, if your only password is “password”, then you don’t have a lot of passwords :D ).“Wait, so I can’t just come up with an awesome password and use it everywhere” you ask? Unfortunately, no. In fact, it’s probably worse having one good password instead of many weak ones. Unfair? Yep, it is. But at least there’s a reason.Hacks don’t happen the way most people think. A bad guy is unlikely to try to brute-force his way into your bank account; most banks have pretty hardened systems that limit guesses and keep data pretty secure (though there are unfortunate exceptions).
