But what exactly is Sustainable Consumption and Production?
As the world has been moving more and more toward the goal of living sustainably and helping our planet, there has been a lot of discussion over sustainable consumption and production. But what exactly is sustainable consumption and production? Sustainable consumption and production mean to "integrate environmental sustainability with economic growth and welfare by decoupling environmental degradation from economic growth and doing more with less". In other words, it means to balance, economic growth and welfare, while doing as little to no harm as possible to the environment.
In order to ensure sustainable consumption and production, it is essential to respect the environment and our planet by reducing current global consumption rates in order to fit with the biophysical capacity to produce ecosystem services and benefits. For example, one of the ways this can be done is through a circular economy in which materials that are used to produce goods could then be reused over and over again. In terms of individual action, it means consuming less, and trying to reuse the items and materials we already have.
