The “Best Mini Garden in Armenia" competition was held in Armenia by the UN's World Food Programme and the Social and Industrial Foodservice Institute in 2021 with the goal of generating "interest in setting up school gardens across the country." The importance of such gardens is to teach children about planning, maintaining, and nurturing their gardens at school.
By setting up and maintaining these gardens, schools now have access to fresh fruits and vegetables so that they may cook healthy and nutritious meals every day. Additionally, these gardens will motivate children to continue their studies in the field of agribusiness.
Outside of Armenia, school gardens are increasing in popularity because of their "interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral nature, they promote a healthy diet, nutritional and environmental education that can change dietary habits, as well as develop lifelong skills."
