A passionate climate activist, community leader and medical doctor, Omnia El Omrani has been selected by Egypt’s Foreign Minister and COP27 President Designate H.E. Sameh Shoukry as his official Youth Envoy.
Her commitment and plans for youth outreach and engagement in COP27 are welcomed and encouraged by H.E. Shoukry, as the event nears.
At just 27-years-old, El Omrani has been deeply involved with climate action efforts across Egypt, Africa and the wider world for many years. Working closely with the COP President Designate and host country teams, El Omrani will contribute to promoting the inclusion of global young voices and youth organizations in COP27 processes and agendas.
In line with Egypt’s commitment to empowering young people, the role of Youth Envoy is designed to ensure the inclusion of youth perspectives in the run-up to COP27, during the negotiations and beyond. To that end, El Omrani’s ongoing commitment to climate action has seen her consult and work closely with the likes of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and UNFCCC, among others, showcasing her belief that collective action is key to advancing an effective, global response to climate change.
Given her medical background, Dr. Omnia El Omrani initially contributed to the international conversation on climate change through the lens of public health as National Public Officer, MENA Focal Point, and Liaison Officer for Public Health Issues for the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association. In this capacity, she represented more than 1.3 million medical students, leading their global advocacy and policy work on climate change with the UNFCCC, UNEP and WHO.
