Over the past few years, the West Coast has seen some of the largest, deadliest and most destructive fires in state history. This past year saw new records with nearly 10,000 fires burning more than 4 million acres. These included thousands of homes and communities -- displacing tens of thousands of families and children.
To meet the critical mental health needs of children and families, we created -- in partnership with California’s North Valley Community Foundation; the Thrive Children's Resilience Initiative video training series -- which we are proud to release on our new website today! Who is it for? There are important lessons presented in this comprehensive, on-demand video series for any community impacted by natural disasters in the US and around the world, where over 175 million children are affected by natural disasters. This video training series is designed to equip educators, parents/guardians, and youth serving professionals with the self-care techniques and practical guidance to support children in their recovery and resilience.

Why we made this video training series:
The mental health burden and the ongoing stressors that come from displacement weigh heavily on affected communities. Not only do children face the extreme stress and trauma from the fire itself, but they are also left grieving the loss of their homes, schools, friends, family, or other safety and support systems. Left unaddressed, these ongoing mental, physical, and financial stressors can have a life-long impact on a child’s development, quality of life, and ability to succeed.
