TITLE -IVY
IVY is an art based project that uses an illustrated story of 16 year old girl who was forced out of school by her father and traded into marriage to an old chief, it explores the consequences of gender based violence and also highlights violation carried out on women living in IDP Camps in Makurdi, Benue, Nigeria due to the Fulani herdsmen crisis that has displaced people in neighboring communities.
The project advocates for a supportive environment for women and girls.
Most girls and women living in IDP Camps encounter sexual abuse and suffer critical health complication from Uterine fibroids, Obstetric fistula and teenage pregnancies. These acts are perpetrated either by high serving community members, and visitors.
Through the advocacy, more women are aware of their rights and are shown how to report violations.
The project is welcomed by the women who are happy that their daughters will be protected and brings a certain level of awareness amongst them as they now understand their rights.
The IDP Camp visited is located in the outskirts of Makurdi, Benue, Nigeria and houses over 2000 displaced persons, with half the number highlighting women and children.
