YouthLead Changemaker Photo Contest
TITLE -Children are the future, feed them right.
Averagely, about 2m children die every year as a result of hunger and malnutrition. Photo was taken in Jeje community where my team and I took to a community project to hold Nutrition and health talks; assess nutritional status of children; carry out food demonstration and teach mothers/ caregivers to prepare fortified complementary foods for infants and young children between 6 - 59 months.
Mothers/ caregivers of children with severe acute malnourished were referred to the Primary healthcare center, while those with moderate acute malnutrition were given free sachets of hygienically prepared and packaged fortified complementary foods. Monitoring and evaluation followed all through the process to follow up.
This became necessary as Nigeria was ranked the 2nd highest contributor to malnutrition globally, a situation that still calls for national emergency.
