Data from the Ministry of Gender indicates that there are more than 5 000 PWD in the in Mzuzu City, in Mzimba District. For over six months, a small community organization Mzuzu Disability organization was closed due to failure to pay rent and its members were forced to be begging in the streets of Mzuzu City. Purple Innovation with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through World Connect came in to assist the 70 women with disabilities from the community organization Mzuzu Disability Organization to gain a workspace, economic and social transformation through entrepreneurship training. The Project is aimed at providing capital for the women in their carpet-making, knitting and sewing. The programme is also rehabilitating a centre for the women to be utilized as a workspace and office for producing the carpets. In the Project, Purple Innovation is training the women in social media marketing and development entrepreneurship. The Tiwale Creative Women with Disability Project which Purple Innovation is implementing with the local community is funded by the United States Agency for International Development through World Connect.
