Funded by the US Department of State’s Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, the project supports S/GWI’s goal to promote the rights and empowerment of women and girls through three closely linked Objectives:
- Objective 1: Young people are more resilient to restrictive gender norms affecting their life choices and opportunities.
- Objective 2: An enabling environment is cultivated in schools or community-based organizations and communities to foster equal collaboration amongst young people.
- Objective 3: A network of participants, stakeholders, and partners at the community and national levels better promote girls’ increased skills and opportunities.
SHE's GREAT! project participants from Chakvi jointly worked on the Community Action Project and implemented the project on “Sexual & Reproductive Health”. Using the World Cafe method, a wide discussion with participants, parents, and teachers was arranged.
SG! participants conducted the training and meetings with their peers, who were not involved in the project directly. In total 15 meetings were held and the students from the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th grades participated in the training. This way they wanted to share the knowledge and experience they gained about various topics such as Gender and My Community, Gender stereotypes in different professions, GBV, Sexual Harassment, SOS applications, and hotlines, Bullying, Sexism in the modern world, and Early Marriage. School children were able to participate in the competition in creating slogans and posters. The winner's poster will be painted in the school building. It will help to spread the message widely and deliver it to the public.
The fact that the project allowed other school children to participate was well-received and positively assumed by the school administration and parents. The parent of one of the newly involved participants expressed her gratitude towards the project, which gave her child an amazing opportunity to express her idea and engage in the competitive activity. The closing of the project and competition was held at the Action Festival, where participants also summarized their SHE’s GREAT! journey.
