To rehabitate Lemwe Health Center that is located in Lilongwe rural 17 Km off the Lilongwe-Mchinji Road (M12). Branching off after Msundwe trading centre, about 57Km from Lilongwe CBD has a total village of 74 with households 5994 and total population of 29009 and its annual expected pregnancy is 1256 with live birth 1131. From a period of December 2019 to February 2020, it has 106 deliveries with 98 live birth and 2 maternal death while 8 still birth. From the live births, 73 delivered at the hospital and 25 at home. Lemwe has no maternity wing and even no nurse/midwife to support the antenatal services and women have to travel to seek for services nearby facilities, which are private and hinder other women to attend due to the fees. Chilobwe health centre is the only nearby public facility is 19.7 Kilometre and only provide antenatal services. There is a great chance of women not attending the antenatal services and visit the facilities likely at third trimester.
To improve the services the project is aiming at adding renovating already existing building that was used as guardian shelter by adding more rooms to be acting as a open patient department (consutation and treatment room plus HIV testing Room). also to renovate the main building to function as a maternity ward and bring antenatal services.
