After completing a democracy driver civic engagement program, I deployed the expertise learnt to create a team of passionate development minded youths, I created a Google form and sent out a volunteer recruitment link to various youth based organizations within the grassroots communities in Katsina State.
I then invite the shortlisted ones to a day orientation training program to help them learn transferable civil engagement skills needed to effectively engage with our target audience.
I collaborated with community based groups and civic leaders within communities in and around Katsina State, where I staged a peaceful rally and visited places like marketplaces and parks on the streets creating public awareness on democracy related matters and called for more civic participation by all especially in relations to holding public officers accountable.
In the meeting with volunteers, we discussed issues around our democracy and on how to strengthen the capacity of youth to demand good governance and political accountability.
It was agreed by all stakeholders present that the future is now and we will work together as a team to support the efforts of Organization for Community Civic Engagement (OCCEN) in trying to solve many of Nigeria’s deep seated civic and political problems.
