Sometimes in early April 2020, a video went viral across all social media platforms. In this video, there was a young man, from northern part of Nigeria. He rinsed his hands with water into a bowl after which he drank it, debunking the existence of corona virus. That single act is a proof that some Nigerians still do not believe in the existence of COVID - 19, a global health pandemic that had claimed the lives of over 200,000 people globally.
I organised a webinar, to do a reorientation that brought up discussions around the existence of Covid19 and the role of youths in cushioning its spread through advocacy (online and offline) as I talked on “Advocacy as tool for youths to fight Covid-19.
I urged the youths to see the pandemic as a serious effect that will have negative impact on their well being.
An advocacy visit was later paid to the emir who disowned the pandemic, several efforts were put in place in ensuring that the pandemic is reduced as well enlightened the population about its dangers and how people are to obey simple rules to curtain the spread of the virus.
Both the online advocacy, webinars and social media campaign were held to prove its existence. For the offline, stakeholder were involved in telling their followers the negative effects of the pandemic.
