The demand for quality higher education in Cameroon has been on the lips of people for decades, but every year, the same things happen: there is corruption, bribery, malice, favoritism, and nepotism in every single sector of Cameroonian Higher Education Institutions. Quality education in the country ends at the High School Level. Students graduating from high school usually have a hard time choosing from their scales of preferences which higher education course to pursue in order to follow after their career aspirations. This usually ends with students picking choices that do not give them any direction to their aspirations. Education cannot be replaced by anything of lesser degree.
It is not enough for a student to access higher education in or out of the country. It will never be enough if a student chooses a field only to make ends meet in the future. Accessing quality education is a major challenge we have sought to overcome, by bringing up principles that suit the purpose for anyone’s true integration into society. EYECI has been involved with the educational sector for more than six months, targeting high school seniors, through direct and online academic and social aid we provide them. The team is made up of recent high school graduates who succeeded with excellent results, and are pursuing their dreams in the institutions we find worthy of our capabilities. This is the reason why the Youth Forum, EYECI, Enhancing Youth Empowerment for Creative Innovations, has come up with the initiative of hosting a grand conference, to enlighten students on their path to quality higher education after the high school level.
AIM
We always learn that we are the leaders of tomorrow, but we end up having no platform to demonstrate our leadership potentials. The aim of this conference is to instruct youth on how to be empowered to lead the journey into their lives. We seek to bring renowned people in quality academia to impart vital knowledge necessary for students’ success in Higher Institutes.
Conference Audience
We intend to bring in high school seniors and juniors from across the Center Region of Cameroon into a single Conference Room, after a round trip to all these schools by the Project Team of EYECI. The purpose of the trips will be to develop in students the capacity to succeed, to provide mentorship to students prior to their final year examinations, to get in contact with school administrations and authorities, cause public awareness for community service, and trigger the zeal to succeed by sharing our educational stories to high school seniors. We know that students love to do last minute preparations during the final days to the commencement of their examination, and so, we desire to induce a sense of academic responsibility in them, prior to their examination, and a sense of care after their examinations.
Subject
Career Orientation, Leadership and community service are the main subjects of the Conference. A quality educational system changes the mentality of the country’s juveniles. This cannot be done by inducing belief or oppressing them, but by opening them up to themselves. Juveniles should be allowed, in their young years to exploit themselves and all they possess, so that they may better know where exactly they fit by the time they are completing high school. This cannot be done in a classroom, but in a second home, which is supposed to be their school. Students, in their juvenile years should be given full attention and many opportunities for community engagement, volunteerism, and commitment to servant-hood. Students should be taught leadership in their respective disciplines, instead of their disciplines alone. The conference will better equip students at the high school level to do much, exploring a world of possibilities and choosing from among them those that best suit their purpose.
