Bridge4Future2DRC Girls program will accomplish two objectives:
- Help promising young girls gain access to higher education in highly esteemed universities so that they will become insightful and effective leaders of Africa’s future
- Equip girls who graduate from universities with the skills they need to enter the job market
From business and entrepreneurship to civic leadership and public management, our program will present girls with the opportunity to become effective agents of change and pioneers of progress.
We will first identify one or two girls under 18 from each province across the Democratic Republic of Congo who qualify for available scholarships (not to exceed 30). We will then prepare them to compete in international scholarship opportunities by helping them develop advanced English language skills. This is important because 99% of full scholarship opportunities require Academic English language competency. With these skills, they will be able to perform well in tests such as TOEFL, IELTS and SAT.
African women have been called “a powerful untapped economic force.” They are integral in addressing the development challenges that Africa faces. Yet they face gender biases in many social and economic frameworks. Only about a third of women across the continent participate in formal economic activity. Our goal is to help women fully participate in and benefit from economic opportunities so that they can help safeguard Africa’s future.
