Proving that the old adage goes, it really is far better to give than to receive; the enjoyment i feel from giving motivates most. Raised up in an urban area could not let me forget the health centre where my life and mothers life were saved. I understand the time i was born the economy of our country Malawi was good than current situation. People could be hospitalized and be provided with enough meals, a shelter and despite that the population was low, the skilled labor was also low but dedicated. However hospitals recorded a lower percentage of maternal death despite usual causes of maternal mortality which include postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, obstructed labor, and sepsis. "During the time i was born maternal death was still a taboo and all over a sudden it has become everyday news in almost all the hospitals of Malawi; "my Mum a retired primary school teacher who gave live birth to nine children surviving eight narrated "
Fear engulfed me as a young lady, who anticipates labor pains one day or another; I conducted an informal research to understand the rise in maternal death in this era.I found that the rise is due to limited resources, as well as demotivated medical personnel who operate duties without adequate protective working materials while risking their lives. Due to this experience in urban hospitals, a thought of the health center in the rural where i was born crossed my mind. At first i did not know how to raise enough money's to donate at Iwawe health centre. My tithe then became the source of savings.I came to realize that the tithe i was giving every month through the Church where i congregate would not change it's meaning in the presence of God if i would donate to reduce maternal death. In all cases in the presence of God it is giving the tenth of my income to serve and save. Therefore for six months i saved a three quarter of the tithe and took the remaining quarter on a monthly basis to Church. By August 2018 i raised $342.09. We discussed the specific needs of the health centre maternity wing with the hospital supervisor. As directed i managed to donate a carton of fifty pairs of gloves for the medical personnel, a carton of scalpels for cesarean section, carton of pain killers and other tablets which helps to soothe labor pains, as well as two soft netballs for awaiting pregnant mothers to engage into exercises. There is a club which already introduced activities within the community for awaiting pregnant mothers at the health centre, however they lacked some of required equipments like the soft balls, therefore for the soft balls i only intervened to help the community club in implementing some of their strategies. Suffice to say,the donation i made in August 2018 is one specific turning point which i felt inspired, motivated and empowered by saving the health personnel from using bare hands to help mothers in giving birth, saving life of the mother and child who would require to undergo C-section, as well as soothing labor pains in mothers with prolonged labor and related complications.Again i gave hope for survival of the club which has a vision to strengthen the lives of awaiting pregnant mothers at Iwawe health centre. Last but not least ,I still managed to serve my Church in it's development and salary for the Reverend whose job is only missionary duties and survives with the family on the contributions made by the Church members. I felt as motivated as i managed the donation before i left for further studies in MBA in India which i was offered a partial tuition scholarship. Upon graduating from here by june 2020 possibly; whether i get a job or source some capital for a business start up, i shall continue with the donations, this time not only at Iwawe health centre but also in other remote area health centre's.Given opportunity i shall work hand in hand with the government wherever possible for the development of health sector in Malawi. Iwawe health centre was opened in 1983; situated in the central region of Malawi in Ntchisi District, some few kilometers before Ntchisi town as we are coming from Lilongwe City which is the capital city of Malawi.
