I have a unique remarkable story to tell and inspire others, a story of hope and of change. At only 8, I was one of the notorious street kids in Lilongwe, one of the cities of Malawi. Having been abandoned by my parents at a tender age, growing up in a family of six, my life was all about survival. Whilst growing, things like school or the future never made sense. My Life was all about searching for the day’s meal, using any other means, including violence and robbing people at times. It was after I was taken off the streets and given the opportunity to start school that my life suddenly changed for the better. Suddenly I had a dream to be good and do better in life. After my secondary education I started helping in the After-school program of a new organization which focused on helping young people realize their dreams. Whilst working there I also attended the weekly youth empowerment training sessions. That is when I realized I am a leader and that I had passion inside me to bring change and help others. My area of interest and focus has always been on helping and empowering the disadvantaged youth such as street kids and other vulnerable youth.
Since then, I have managed to form my own Non-governmental organization in which I mentor and help street kids and other vulnerable children to become responsible citizens in life through provision of life skills education, leadership skills and spiritual enlightenment. In addition I have also managed to pursue further studies and obtained a bachelors’ degree in Computer science at one of the local universities.
