In Haiti, community-based violence has been a major trend for decades. Conflicts often occur between members of communities and or among interest groups with different views or opinions frequently through an electoral context which is inherently the center part of a democracy.
Children are unable to go to school, both formal and informal workers can’t get to work, the mass production is then stagnant. Even humanitarian aid get sometimes stuck in very prolonged periods of lock down due to political and social crises. These scenarios automatically affect the growth of Haitian communities.
Recognizing these threats and challenges against democracy and peaceful development society. And to prevent my community from being more affected by fragility and violence. I acted and started exploring and promoting our role as youth in peace building efforts. I have come into play with peers through peaceful coalition by designing and disseminating actionable training and learning to establish a peaceful atmosphere while advancing democratic values in Haitian communities.
I have led many conferences, seminars, roundtable discussions, and presentations gathering together young leaders from all Haiti to debate future and take concrete actions (projects) to stand out solutions to irritating conflicts that may occur in Haitians communities before they grow into big social and emotional crises.
As co-founder and Chairman at Groupe d’Appui Communautaire - GAC, board members and I launched and started, two years ago, a training workshop called (Lapè Pou Ayiti – LPA) with a focus lay on youth, women and local organizations.
In an inclusive environment and peace of mind, participants get to understand conflicts, the process of peaceful resolution and plan what they can and should do to promote peace while encouraging active and ongoing dialogue between citizens in their communities on matters of public concern.
All participants have proven skills and knowledge in negotiating and mediating conflict in communities or at their professional work. LPA has now strengthened and impacted a broad variety of about two thousands (2.000) community leaders and around two hundred and a thousand (200.000) community members in their contributions to the nurturing of sustainable peace.
