A police officer in your family was a great honor in the past and for me also being surrounded by my 12
cousin I was the smallest one. See my brother be a police officer was a proud thing since the day I have
been a victim of the misused power of this uniform. I still remember I was weak in my studies and know-how
my father was working to give us our needs. Thinking, that having a role model in my life will help to
learn my parents sent me there after school. My Big brother has started to teach me but I was learning
with terror as I was beaten with Slap, police belt and the famous police stick also known as Matrac “ .
Being at the age of nine having through it was very painful sometimes you cannot sit. I was warm if I say
something to my parents it will be double the dose. One day my father has seen how he was teaching me
and I have stopped going but he assaults my dad verbally with the word that illiterate people parent will have
an illiterate child.
Some years later, I have been witnessing a seen how my other cousin has been beaten with the police belt,
as he made a mistake, that 14 yrs boy was terrified and for I have remembered my pain. Seeing him crying
and tremble with afraid has destroyed,me too was afraid and fall sick, his life psychologically destroy that ,
got the problem to learn and finally stop school at 16 yrs and start working.
Years past that create negative behavior from me towards them and in the other side one became three,
and feeling this disrespect towards them by my action I have been corrected by physical assault beaten
in front my Father, slap, punch, police belt was on the menu, my right eye has got a traumatic injury and till
now when I look myself in a mirror I remember it as now my eye size are not the same as my parent did
have the fund to take to the hospital. I have been in pain for weeks and with my parent as I was going to be an
adult soon my parent was verbal warm if they saw anything a stealing case will be reporting on me I will be
inside and they will destroy my life.
This word has been graved in my head and my late father also, with his word that being a poor person
is that we received as treatment, with my parent situation and my life journey I have been seeing more
people like me which make think that its money which make you get a status. However, my father and
teacher Values has change my mind and make me think outside the picture. You find something wrong
change it not by violence’s but by bringing the solution starting from yourself. I have give life to social work started as first aide in st jhon ambulance then as coordinator in Mauritius Red cross.Since 2012 I have decided
to do it try to bring the change by empowering youth in my community. In 2014 I have join the SOS
Children’s Village as Social worker where I found that since I was born I have with rights and being an
adult we have the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. With the support and coaching of my
