Many years ago, a boy child was born. His birth was different in that he came out of his mother's womb with zeal and readiness to fave the world. Now, that child was me. Later on after coming of age, I asked my mother of the meaning of my name and she said it meant nation and indeed a nation I was. Well, I went to school at a very early age because my parents were busy people and had no one to leave me to while they worked. I was forced to join my other siblings at school for the purpose of just passing time. The experience at school in itself brought a real desire for books in me. I learned reading before any teacher could teach me, by observations, and was so quick to learn new things. This prompted the teachers to urge my parents to enroll me to school. Eight years later, I was done with my primary education and was ready for enrollment to a high school level life. The first few weeks were okey untill I encountered bullying from the older fellas who made life really difficult for me. Time proved itself and in no time I was done with my high school life amid struggles involved. Now, all those years, life was not a piece of cake at all for me and my family.
My dad, a watchman at a firm, had not gone to school and he really never wanted any of us, his children, to miss the chance of education which he did not got. He was not a rich man, but he struggled day and night to make sure we got everything we needed for school. My mom too had never stepped to any school and had the same desire for us as our father. We would go without supper on several occasions but that could not stop us from rising above all odds. I remember at a time when our house was locked by the landlord due to a rent arrears my dad had not settled.
As a young man, I watched my parents struggle together to raise a meal a day and cater for our education in vain but through perseverance, they proved they really meant to see us succeed. My mom would encourage me to study even harder day and night. She would ask me to ignore the world and focus. Am proud of her to date. The struggles we experienced had prepared me for life, as I thought, but after high school, I felt otherwise. I passed my end year exam well and needed to proceed to my college levels but money proved to be a real hindrance. My dad's salary could not manage to cater for our wellbeing and my college as well. I had to do something to see that I achieve my goals in life. I looked for a manual job at a construction site and got one as a casual laborer. Life was not easy either as mistreatment of workers was the order of the day, and since I had no papers and credentials, I had to endure all that. The work was not easy either way, hard labor was what it was with no resting days. The rate at which the youths who had no other alternatives in life were being mistreated opened my eyes to the reality of life. This was a great turning point in my life as I promised myself to work even harder and save some money to he able to continue with my education, so as to be able to open my own company that will employ youths facing same situations I was in then and a company that will advance for a better treatment of it's workers.
Well, time really flew and three years later, I had saved enough and approached my dad with the idea of going back to school which he supported strongly and added me some funds he had saved and that was how I joined a college to pursue a course in Tourism Management in order to create a tourism firm that will employ people and create tour experience for people.
Well, it's now two years since I enrolled and am remaining with one more year to complete my studies having gained enough skills needed to make my vision a reality. As years go by, am always inspired by the fact that I have got a mission to achieve and a vision to accomplish against all odds. My community has suffered in the hands of those who seem to have made it, and are subjected to hardships and insults just because they are desperate for job opportunities. Well, it is time to redefine that!
