Activism Against Gender-based Violence: Starter Kit

As movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp have gained traction around the globe, the spotlight on sexual violence and rape culture has reached an all-time high. This kit features the 23 best resources on the YouthLead website relating to gender-based violence. A portion of the material covers the 16 Days of Activism campaign running from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day! Started in 1991, the 16 Days of Activism is an International Campaign geared towards ending gender-based violence against women and girls. This campaign is a civil society initiative to call for the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence. This kit is useful for anyone who wants to learn about the elements that drive gender-based violence in different communities and how to combat them through policy making, advocacy, educational institutions and global campaigns like the 16 Days of Activism. It also highlights some of the discussions around gender-based violence that young changemakers are having on the YouthLead platform.

Supporting LGBTQI+ Rights: Starter Kit

This kit contains 15 of the most informative resources on the YouthLead website related to activism against discrimination directed toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex individuals, as well as individuals with other diverse gender and sexual identities (LGBTQI+).

Here you will find tools separated by target audience: background materials for those seeking to understand the current status of LGBTQI+ issues, materials for amateur and experienced advocates and activists, and materials for policymakers who want to institute positive change in their schools, districts, cities, or legislatures. While most resources center on communities in the United States and Europe, many of these lessons can be applied across geographic areas.

Menstrual Health & Hygiene: Starter Kit

Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) is the access to menstrual hygiene products to “absorb or collect the flow of blood during menstruation, privacy to change the materials, and access to facilities to dispose of used menstrual management materials”. It is important to provide people who menstruate with the knowledge, preparation, and support in managing menstruation in a healthy, safe, and strong environment.

This starter kit is useful for people who menstruate or anyone looking to learn about proper menstrual hygiene. The continuous stigma, social taboos, and limited access to hygiene products prevent people who menstruate from educational and employment opportunities. All over the world people who menstruate experience the challenges of managing periods, especially in the workplace and in school.

Global GESI Analysis by Youth Excel

Youth Excel aims to advance gender equality by using research, learning, and data to change systems and transform norms, shifting power differentials so that diverse youth—including youth of all genders in different age categories—influence development agendas and development decision making. In late 2020, we conducted a Global GESI Analysis through desk research to (1) compile data and identify broad trends in line with Youth Excel’s work; (2) provide recommendations for Youth Excel activities.
