After seeing poor awareness on menstrual hygiene among women and young ladies, Afrika Youth Movement (AYM) in partnership with opportunities hub and #WeGirlsFoundation sensitized young ladies and women on the best practices during menstruation on Friday 12th of June 2020 at Tsamiya community, in katsina, katsina state .
The event was organized as part of an awareness drive headed by the northern region coordinator of the (AYM) Ismail Bello to celebrate the 2020 world menstrual hygiene day.
Young ladies and women within the age bracket of 15 - 35 attended the meeting where Miss Aisha Marafa, Miss Amal Ahmad and Mr Babangida Ruma interacted with them on healthy Menstrual Practices and gave out sanitary kits to the young ladies and women.
They suggested the use of at least 3 to 4 pads a day during mensuration and asked not to use cloths or tissues which may not be hygienic and safe to use.
An awareness against rape on girls and boys was done during the meeting, Mr Babangida Ruma discussed with the residents on the increase of rape cases across the federation and the need for the residents to stand up and speak out against rape most especially on the girl child, He made mention on the need to stand against gender based violence and shun every form of sexual violence and abuse on the girl child especially.
Ismail Bello appreciated all the partners and the community for their support and assistance towards making the program a success and assured the community of more programs that will be of benefits to everyone and the community at large.
